Synopsis:

Gilles de la Tourette syndrome is a neurological disorder characterized by unwanted movements and vocalizations called "tics."

However, tics are merely the visible and audible manifestations of a complex and powerful force that cannot be witnessed by an observer.

In this documentary, the inner symptoms of Tourette syndrome are revealed and openly discussed by people who experience them every day.

How does it feel to tic?  Why can't a person stop ticcing? What causes vocal outbursts and other extreme tics? Are motor and vocal tics truly involuntary? What is going on inside one's mind during obsessions and compulsions?

These questions are answered in detail and much more is revealed about this mysterious disorder as six individuals with TS take the audience far into the Tourettic mind.

Contents of the documentary:

• Descriptions by people with TS of "what goes on inside the mind" leading up to and during tics and other symptoms.
• History of Tourette syndrome (including the treatment of Tourettic people in the past) and how it relates to the disorder in modern times.
• Interviews with people with Tourette syndrome about how they manage their symptoms.
• Dramatizations and first-hand explanations of how it feels to experience tics, obsessions, compulsions, and intrusive thoughts.
• Real accounts of how people can live happy, productive lives in spite of some disturbing symptoms.

Benefits:

The video should be helpful to any adult wishing to find a detailed, honest view of Tourette syndrome. The non-Tourettic viewer will know considerably more about what it is like to have the disorder after watching this film. This knowledge may be especially important for parents of children with TS because children may be unable to clearly describe their experiences. Hopefully, the movie will also help many who have Tourette syndrome to better understand their symptoms and realize that they are not alone.

This DVD is an excellent source of information for teachers, family members, friends, co-workers, and health professionals who are associated with either Tourettic children or adults.

This film is too complex (and at times too heavy) for children.
In addition, because every case of Tourette syndrome is unique, the producer of this movie makes no claim that everyone with TS experiences the various symptoms in the same way. It is also rare for a person to have all of the symptoms associated with this disorder.
